SUMMER 2016 MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES

Although most minimum wage changes for individual states and smaller municipalities (cities, townships, etc) are designated to change on January 1st, there are a few changes that go into effect later in the year. Here are the mid-year increases for 2016:
AS OF JULY 1, 2016:
Maryland: $8.75, increased from the former minimum wage of $8.25 earlier in the year, based on legislation passed in 2014.
Washington DC: $11.50, increased from the previous minimum wage of $10.50, also based on legislation passed in 2014.
AS OF AUGUST 1, 2016:
Minnesota: $9.50 for large businesses (those with an annual gross revenue of $500,000 or more), up from the previous minimum wage of $7.75 per hour,
and $9.00 for small businesses (with annual revenues of less than $500,000), up from the former wage of $7.25 per hour. These changes are also based on 2014 legislation.

  1. Another form of workplace bullying is called “workplace mobbing”. It is a specific type that occurs when one or two people feel threatened or jealous of a coworker, and begin harassing and scheming against the other person. The dangerous part of this is that others are easily pulled into the “gang” and it can spread to the point that most of the staff is involved. The victims sometimes suffer very serious psychological and physical effects. This happened to me at the beginning of my career and lasted about 7 years until I was able to leave the environment for another with much better leadership. It was there that I gained my confidence as a teacher and self worth as a person. I was treated with respect and dignity. I was praised for a job well-done and was given constructive advice when I could improve something.
